The 247Sports recruiting and scouting team unveiled its updated 2023 rankings this week, complete with 32 five-star prospects for this recruiting cycle, led by New Orleans Isidore Newman quarterback and Texas Longhorns football commitment Arch Manning. 247Sports established itself as an industry leader in part because of its set number of 32 five-star prospects per cycle, a number that reflects the total first-round selections each NFL Draft.
These 32 five-stars, notes 247 Sports national recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks, are not necessarily guaranteed five-star status at the end of the cycle in roughly eight weeks.
Players could rise and fall within the 32, potentially fall out of the 32, or possibly get passed up for current high-level prospects knocking on the five-star door. The final 32 five-star reveal lands in late January ahead of February’s traditional National Signing Day.
