The Oregon Ducks are trending to land a verbal commitment for one of the nation’s top wide receiver prospects who happens to be also currently committed to the Oklahoma Sooners.
four-star wide receiver Ashton Cozart is currently on an official visit with the Oregon Ducks despite being committed to the Sooners. Now the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions are starting to fall in place for the Ducks as they put themselves in a position to land a possible verbal commitment.
247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong is the lead expert on the predictions and he put in his pick first on Friday afternoon. Oklahoma insiders Brandon Drumm and Parker Thune have also followed suit, as has Scott Eklund of the 247Sports’ Washington site and Mike Roach of the 247Sports’ Texas site.
As Cozart started his official visit to the Ducks he spoke with Wiltfong briefly about the Ducks and his upcoming visit.
“Being here right now just feels right. The Dan Lanning era and staff is special and it can’t be explained,” he stated.
Cozart is currently rated as the 140th best player in the country regardless of position group, the 17th best wide receiver in the nation, and is rated as the 25th best player in the state of Texas. All rankings are via the 247Sports rankings.
An interesting nugget about Cozart’s recruitment is that while he currently plays his prep football in the state of Texas, he grew up and started his high school football career in the state of Washington in the Seattle area. His ties to the Pacific Northwest are strong and the Ducks are tapping into that with their recruitment.
The Ducks’ 2023 recruiting class is currently rated as the 34th best class in the country and is at four players. Oregon has landed one verbal commitment at the receiver position for the class and that’s four-star and Top 100 prospect Jurrion Dickey out of California.
